Today (19/5/2022) my Instagram updated to the new full-screen TikTok style feed.

The inconsistencies in UI have become even greater to the point where it now feels confusing to use what should be a peak mainstream consumer-focused app.

Here are some of the major UI inconsistencies I found in my first few hours of using the redesigned app:

Let’s start with the way in which they show progression inside of posts:

Notice the thin white line(s) at the bottom of the screen:

A. Single photo → Full big line;

B. Single video → Big line that fills with time;

C. Multiple photos → Multiple small lines;

D. Reels (video) → No line at all;

This makes it impossible to distinguish between a single photo and a video buffering.
